The Columbian Park Zoo is a Lafayette treasure. With stage four of Governor Holcomb’s Back on Track Indiana plan, the Columbian Park Zoo is hoping to reopen on June 14th at 50% capacity! Many things could change from now until then, but we are hoping the Zoo will be able to open.
We are all looking forward to the new Penguin Exhibit at the Zoo. The Columbian Park Zoo is anticipating 9 African Penguins that will be coming from California. The crew at the zoo have been working throughout the winter to prepare the space for the new penguins.
The “Family Farm” houses several animals that you may have the opportunity to pet. Some included are a miniature horse, llama, and a pot bellied pig. If you love goats, stop by to show the Nigerian Dwarf goats some love.
The “Butterfly Garden Party” is typically open from May to September and houses several Northern American butterfly species. Walk though the enchanting butterfly exhibit and watch the amazing colorful butterflies flutter about.
The “Historic Animal House” is home to several Gibbons and Monkeys. Take a seat at the benches available along their enclosures and enjoy watching these creatures jump, play and hang around.
The “Americas” Features many animals including Bald Eagles, Prairie Dogs, Otters and so much more. You will not grow tired of watching the playful otters splash around and swim over you as you watch from the tube beneath the water of their exhibit.
The “Australia” section of the Columbian Park Zoo is really fun! You have the opportunity to walk through and see the Wallabies, and Emu. There are several other animals to view in the “Australia” area too!
We hope you have the opportunity to visit The Columbian Park Zoo in Lafayette this summer. Come support this treasure of Lafayette.
