Who Wants To Be A Realtor?

Who Wants To Be A Realtor?

Have you noticed the booming real estate market lately? With houses selling like hot cakes many people have been thinking about putting their real estate hats on and jumping into a new career. Has this idea crossed your mind recently?

But how and where does one become a Realtor?

To become a Realtor you have to meet some requirements. You must be 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED, and complete the approved 90 hours of the pre-licensing course. Once you have completed your 90 hour course, you have one year to take the exam. If you would like to learn more about the courses, give me a call or text.

Real Estate Education:

You can take your pre-licensing courses online or at an education center near you.

Real Estate Exams:

You must pass the exam within one year of your course completion. The exam is tough, so study hard!

Passed My Test, Now What?

Now you must find a place to "hang your license." Check out local brokers in the area to see which has the best fit for you. What do you want from a broker? Do you want support, education, or technology? What are the commission splits? What is the atmosphere like? Find an office that is most conducive to your goals.

Costs Of Being A Realtor:

There are many costs associated with having a career as a Realtor.

Here are some of the major ones:

License fees/ board fees/ desk fees

Continuing education fees

Vehicle maintenance- you will be adding loads of miles to your vehicle

Office supplies/ computer/ software

Marketing/ marketing materials

Required Continuing Education:

Every year you must completed the required number of continuing education hours. You have the option to complete them online, or in a class room setting.

My Advice:

If you have a friend that is a Realtor, grab lunch or coffee with them to pick their brain. I have met with several people over the years either considering a career or may have just started. I love to help people and discuss this world of real estate.

Having a wonderful mentor can help you to become successful. Mentors can help you understand the local market, share experience and be a sounding board.

Always keep learning. Go beyond the minimum required continuing education. Be the expert. Stay on top of the market, laws and technology.

Marketing, marketing, marketing! Become a marketing maven. Know your audience and how to reach them. As a Realtor you need to know how to market yourself as well as your listings.

If you have any questions about becoming a Realtor, don't hesitate to contact me. Give me a call, text or email, I would love to help you.
